Youth in Thyolo district have been encouraged to take an active role in environmental conservation, agroforestry, and sustainable farming through the Climate Smart Public Works Programme (CSPWP).

The program aims to equip young people with practical skills in conserving the environment, planting trees, and sustaining farming activities.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, an extension worker under the Forestry Department, Vitumbiko Nyambosi, highlighted the program's importance in empowering youths to make a positive impact on their communities.
He emphasized that the skills gained will not only benefit the individuals but also the community at large.
One of the beneficiaries of the program, Maxwell Mwachande, shared his experience, stating that he has learnt various farming methods, tree planting, and soil sustenance techniques that will see him to start his own errands at his things.
CEO of the Centre for Youths and Environment, Calvin Mataya, stressed the importance of involving young people in environment conservation.
He said the youths brings new ideas, enthusiasm, and creativity to tackle climate change and pollution.
Mataya also emphasized that young people's participation raises community awareness, promoting responsible habits and driving global efforts for a cleaner, healthier planet.
"Young people's passion for advocacy drives change, promoting global efforts for a cleaner and healthier planet,” said Mataya.
