Member of Parliament for Likoma Island Constituency, Charles Chilambula has donated 8.5 million kwacha to disaster victims following some incessant rains that has displaced 415 families in the district.

Speaking with Area and Village Disaster Risk Management Committees (ADRMCs), on Wednesday, Chilambula said the aftermath of the heavy rains is quite shocking.
"I am deeply concerned about this incident, may I therefore appeal to the government and it's partners to render a supporting hand to the affected households," he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Disaster Risk Management Officer for the island district Clifton Botha has commended the gesture by the Member of Parliament saying the monetary support has come in good time when the affected families are in dire need of support.
Botha has since warned that the number of the affected households may rise due to the continued heavy downpour.
Of the total amount, a share of 3 million kwacha has been allocated to the affected people on Chizumulu Island, while the remaining balance has gone to the affected people in Likoma.
Likoma District Disaster Risk Management Officer, Tamanda Nkhoma told this publication on Tuesday, that the affected people would need relief food and other items such as plastic papers for temporary shelters just to mention but a few.
Government is yet to respond to the affected households in the island district.
