The committee aims to deal the issue from the grassroots level, working closely with local community structures to identify and prevent cases of trafficking.

Social Welfare Officer for the Ministry of Gender James Moyo, emphasized the importance of involving local communities in the fight against trafficking.

"We cannot contain a local problem with a national structure alone, we need to work with people from the roots, empowering community structures to be the first line of defense against trafficking," Said Moyo.

Moyo further said that Mzimba has been identified as one of the districts with high cases of human trafficking, with many residents migrating to countries like South Africa in search of better opportunities and this has also made the district a hub for traffickers, who prey on vulnerable individuals.

Mzimba police coordinator responsible for police community, Inspector Peter Chima of the Mzimba Police Station welcomed the initiative, describing it as a brilliant idea.

"As police officers, we have been working in isolation, but with this committee, we will be able to achieve more in combating trafficking, It's a challenge, but we're happy to work with community members to make this initiative a success, " Said Chirwa.

The District Coordinating Committee will work closely with village structures to identify and support victims of trafficking, as well as raise awareness about the dangers of trafficking.
