Over 7000 people to access clean water in Mzimba

Over 7000 people from the area of Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba are expected to have an access to clean water following the New Apostolic Church Relief Organisation(NACRO) initiative to introduce water and sanitation project in the district.

NACRO Country Program Coordinator, Anthony Ngwira said this in Mzimba on Wednesday when he briefed officials from M'mbelwa district council as well as other stakeholders.


He said the organization saw it necessary to provide clean water to lessen some of the challenges that the people are facing in thr communities.


Ngwira said the beneficiaries will come from 12 villages which have been identified in the Inkosi Chindi's territory where boreholes will be drilled.


"The project will strengthen and transform the vulnerable communities to have clean water and become self-sustaining households," said Ngwira.


M'mbelwa District Council Water Officer Jacob Mkandiwire said the project is will be crucial in addressing scarcity of clean and portable water in T/A Chindi area.


The 2 years and six months project is financed by Federal Ministry of International Cooperation and Development and NAK- Karitativ at the tune of MK624 million.
