Youths in Thyolo have been urged to embrace Electronic Payment (E-Payment) through Digital Financial Services (DFS) to move with the changing times of analogue to digital transactions.

The awareness Campaign was conducted by the Ministry of Finance in Collaboration with Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).
Speaking in an interview at Thunga Community Day Secondary School in Thyolo, Digital Financial Services Specialists, in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Steve Mgwadira, said its crucial to involve youths to embrace digital payment as it fosters the continuity of the project.
"We are here to sensitize the youths on E-Payment hence they will take the information to their parents and guardians. The world is going digital hence involving youths in using mobile banking through bank, airtel money and TNM Mpamba," he said.
He pointed youths as leaders for the present and future embracing digital era it will pass from one generation to another.
Reserve Bank Senior Analyst in Department of Nation Payment Systems, Setrida Thomas, the initiative will lessen the burden among young people of standing in long line to do transaction hence looking at time factor as most of them get busy.
"We are living in an instant world where most of our youths hesitate to remain in long line to access bank service thereby the coming in of E-payment will lessen the burden as they will not panic doing other things like studying, business among others," she said.
She said targeting youths in E-payment will help the nation to be better as they will be in different position future hence making digital to move forward.
"We know youths are the leaders of tomorrow and involving them in this, would be convenience, way of sending, receiving and keeping money," she added.
A 16-year-old Brenda Makilele from Thunga CDSS said the E-Payment will help her to keep and send the money in time.
"Through this E-Payment I will be able to let my parents pay my school fees using phone and buying other basic things that I need and hence making life easy. In the world of scammers and fraudsters, its crucial for students to use digital payment,” said Makilele.
The Digitalization Financial Inclusion and Competitiveness (DFIC) project started in July 2024 and is expected to end in January 2025. The project is being implemented in all 28 districts.
