The two-day training workshop has targeted members of the Hora Press Club, from Monday until Tuesday 17th December 2024 in Mzimba District.

Acting Chief Public Education Officer for the ACB, Egritta Ndala, underscored the critical role of journalists in exposing corrupt practices and promoting accountability.

She noted that the media has the power to shape public opinion and drive social change, making it essential for journalists to align their reporting with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy II.

“The media can uncover and bring to light corruption that often goes unnoticed. We urge you to take up this responsibility seriously, using your platforms to promote transparency and hold the corrupt accountable,” Ndala said.

The training, which aims to enhance investigative reporting skills, comes at a time when the fight against corruption in Malawi is intensifying.

Ndala stressed that equipping journalists with the necessary tools would make them invaluable allies in the broader effort to eradicate corruption.

Hora Press Club Chairperson, Ephraim Banda, expressed his gratitude to the ACB for this initiative, emphasizing its potential to empower journalists to become more effective watchdogs.

Banda assured that the club would leverage the skills gained from the workshop to produce impactful, corruption-exposing stories.

“This training will enhance our ability to not only report but also inspire action against corruption. We are committed to using our stories to spark change,” Banda said.

The workshop is part of the ACB’s ongoing efforts to ensure that journalists play a central role in promoting good governance and transparency in Malawi.
