Chitipa registers 10 Cholera cases

By Michael Chiyoka Ng’ambi

Chitipa District has recorded a resurgence of cholera, with 10 cases reported at Kapenda Health Centre.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Director of Health Services Dr. Jollings Kasondo confirmed the cases, stating that over the past eight days, Kapenda Health Centre registered 10 suspected cases of cholera, which were later confirmed positive.

"We received 10 suspected cases of cholera, and we conducted rapid diagnostic tests, all of which came back positive," Dr. Kasondo said.

He added that the Chitipa District Health Office, in collaboration with relevant authorities, has implemented measures to control the further spread of the disease.

"Cholera is a preventable and treatable disease, and this can be achieved by drinking safe water, using latrines properly, and washing hands with soap after using the toilet and before handling food," he emphasized.

Dr. Kasondo also urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms of diarrhea, as early intervention can prevent complications.
