Chitipa reports six suicide cases since January 2024

Police in Malawi northern District of Chitipa have pleaded with citizens to seek advice from authorities when they face challenges than committing suicide as records indicate that six individuals with age range of below 34, have committed suicide in the district since January 2024.


The plead, comes following rising cases of suicide in the district as another death is reported of a 32-year-old man Boast chihama who has died after hanging himself in a mango tree at Naviziba village Traditional authority Mwabulambya in the district yesterday.


According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for chitipa Police, Bright Mathews Mfune, said the incident occurred on 5th September,2024 around 06:00 am hours and the body was discovered by his grandfather who later reported to Police.


“The police officers and medical practitioners from chitipa district hospital visited the scene and the postmortem conducted showed that the death was due to suffocation and the reason for taking his life is not yet known,” said Mfune
