Court jails jealousy husband over intimidation

The Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate's Court has convicted and sentenced Wilson Sichinga, aged 41, to 14 months jail term for using insulting language and intimidating Steven Dumuka, a workmate of the convict's wife.


The court, through prosecutor Sergeant Innocent Dzatopesa of Kawale Police Station, on July 27, 2024, heard that Sichinga made a phone call to Dumuka accusing him of having a secret love affair with his wife who happened to be his workmate.


Sergeant Innocent Dzatopetsa said during the call the convict insulted, intimidated and vowed to kill him for flirting with his wife.


Appearing in court, he pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.


In his submission, Dzatopesa asked the court to consider granting a stiffer sentence to deter other would - be offenders.


Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe concurred with the state's submission.


Michongwe ordered him to serve 14 months for the count of intimidation and 6 months for using insulting language. All sentences to run concurrently.


Sichinga hails from Chiwiku Village Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in Rumphi district.
