Mphatso Phiri, an employee of Big Mart Shop in Mzimba, has sustained a serious leg injury while on duty, but alleges that her employer is not providing her with medical expenses and living costs.

Phiri, who was injured during working hours, sought treatment at a public hospital, where she discovered that two bones in her foot were broken.
Despite her struggles to make ends meet, Phiri claims that her employer has not provided any support, forcing her to rely on her own limited resources.
To make matters worse, Phiri's salary was reduced from MK150,000 to MK90,000 last year, after she took time off work due to a stomach illness. Her employer allegedly cited her absence as the reason for the reduction.
Phiri is now appealing to authorities for help, se
Owner of the Big Mart Shop in Mzimba, Kishan Rampariya, has confirmed that Phiri had sustained a leg injury while on duty and he is providing assistance to Phiri and is committed to compensation for her injuries.
"We are helping our employee, and we will compensate her accordingly, however, we need to follow the proper procedures and await the Labour Office's guidance on the matter,"said Rampariya.
However, Mzimba District Labour Officer Edward Shaffie has since launched an investigation into the matter, promising to look into Phiri's allegations and determine the appropriate course of action.
