Man netted for various crimes in Blantyre

Police in Blantyre are holding in custody Clever Makina, 25, on suspicion that he committed multiple offenses, including having sexual intercourse with a minor and creating and distributing child pornography.


Public Relations officer for Blantyre police station, Mary chaponda, said according to reports, the victim's mother, Mrs. Naluso, discovered a pornographic video of her 16-year-old daughter on Facebook.


She said the victim revealed that Makina, who used a fake Facebook account with a female name, had met her online and offered financial assistance.


The PRO said the two, met in person at Lunzu Trading Centre, where Makina took the victim to a rest house room and recorded a pornographic video.


Chaponda said after the escapade, the suspect demanded K400,000 from the victim, threatening to post the video on Facebook if she does not comply.


“When the victim couldn't pay, Makina allegedly demanded sexual intercourse in exchange for not posting the video. Despite the victim's compliance, Makina still posted the video on Facebook.


“The victim underwent a medical examination, which confirmed that she had been defiled,” said Chaponda.


Chaponda said the suspect was therefore arrested and admitted taking committing the crime in the course.


"The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting court proceedings for charges including sexual intercourse with a minor, cyberbullying, and attempted robbery," she said


Makina hails from Chimiko Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo District.
