The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says they are impressed with the third phase of the voter transfer exercise, which allows registered voters to change their polling stations ahead of the September 16, 2025.

Commissioner Richard Chapweteka said this when he toured Mzimba district to assess the progress of the exercise.
He said he was so far satisfied with the progress from centres visited around the boma.
“We are here to ensure that everything is running as expected. So far, people are transferring their names to their preferred voting locations in preparation for the elections on September 16,” said Chapweteka.
However, he noted some challenges at the Mzimba Prison registration center, where some inmates struggled to provide their date of birth, a key requirement for voter registration.
“At the prison, we have observed that some individuals cannot recall their date of birth, which may prevent them from voting. We are working to address this issue within the remaining days to ensure the process is inclusive and successful,” he added.
He further urged the families of the inmates to assist them in providing the necessary information for the voter transfer exercise.
The voter transfer exercise which started on March 13 to 15, took place in Mzimba, Lilongwe, Lilongwe City, Mangochi District, Mangochi Municipality, Chikwawa, and Nsanje.
