Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud has cautioned against abuse of mosquito nets for fishing and covering gardens saying this defeats the purpose of the fight against Malaria in the country

Daud made the sentiment on Friday in Salima district during the launch of the Malaria Youth Corps initiative.
She emphasized that the government incurs significant costs to procure mosquito nets, highlighting the importance of using them to prevent mosquito bites.
The Deputy minister underscores the need for youth to be actively involved in all malaria eradication programs.
"Over 1,600 people died of malaria last year, with over 6 million cases recorded". Daud said
Daud was, however, optimistic that the cases have and will continue to drop due to current interventions.
In his remarks, the chairperson for Malaria Youth Corps Malawi, Sunday Mchemela, said the plans to end malaria by 2030 require concerted efforts.
"We are committed to collaborate with the government to eliminate malaria by the year 2030," added Mchemera.
