Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi, has urged people in Chitipa district to practice good sanitation and hygiene practices amid escalating cases of cholera in the district.
Daudi made the remarks on Thursday after visiting health facilities in Chitipa where Cholera cases were registered.
The Minister said people of Chitipa should continue practicing good sanitation and hygiene to ensure Cholera cases do not spread further.
She commended the efforts by healthcare givers in the wake of the pandemic to curb further spread.
District Nursing Officer, Dr. Victor Matumbo said they have taken strides conducting awareness campaigns on good hygiene practices, especially in rural communities where more cases have so far been recorded.
In his remarks, co-chairperson of the Presidential Taskforce on Public Health Emergencies, Dr. Wilfred Chalamira Nkhoma, appealed for more support from partners so that cholera outbreak is fully contained.
Cumulatively, Chitipa has recorded 40 cases of cholera and one death
