Programs manager for MITAYOC, Sibusiso Shaba, said they have targeted to raise K12million to support people in the district who are facing the challenges of mental health through civic education in order to reduce the rising cases in the district.
Shaba said they chose mental health issue based on the data from Mzimba police which shows that the district registered 19 cases of suicide from April to August this year.
He said as an organization they thought it wise to carry awareness campaigns on mental health issues to discourage people from committing such practices.
Shaba disclosed that most cases of suicide emanates from economic and relationship issues which he said requires deep counseling to curb the problem.
"We have invited individuals, organizations and other well-wishers to come forward to help us during the fundraising dinner so that we address the challenges of mental health affecting the youthful generation," said Shaba.
