As Mpox outbreaks spread in other countries, Mzimba South Health Office has assured the public of its preparedness to handle the disease if it emerges in the district.
DRC has reported more cases of Mpox
Director of Health and Social Services at Mzimba District Hospital, Dr. Prince Chirwa, confirmed that while the district has not reported a significant number of cases, residents showing symptoms should immediately alert health workers.
"Signs of Mpox include a skin rash lasting 2 to 4 weeks, headache, back pain, muscle aches, fever, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes. We are intensifying awareness campaigns to educate communities about these dangers," said Dr Chirwa.
Dr. Chirwa emphasized the importance of preventive measures, such as frequent handwashing and avoiding physical contact with unclean hands, to curb the spread of the disease.
Health expert George Jobe urged the Ministry of Health to respond swiftly, stressing the need for nationwide awareness to prevent the disease from spreading in Malawi.
