This was said during an awareness meeting with different stakeholders on Wednesday at M'mbelwa Council in Mzimba district.
The NCC Commissioner, Lyka Mtambo Milanzi, said the Commission’s has an essential role in ensuring that the country meet its obligations to children.
"Our mandate is clear. We will monitor resource allocation and oversee the protection and promotion of children’s rights.
" The Commission is committed to empowering children and encouraging their participation in issues that affect them, ensuring their voices are heard and respected," said Milanzi.
Milanzi further outlined plans to create comprehensive guidelines for managing foster care and educational systems, emphasizing accountability for service providers.
She said they will enforce compliance with the guidelines to ensure every child in Malawi is safeguarded and supported.
Acting Director of Administration at M'mbelwa District Council, Vuston Mulungu, expressed optimism about the Commission’s ability to improve coordination among stakeholders in child protection.
"This initiative will not only strengthen the enforcement of children’s rights but also foster collaboration across sectors," he said.
Gender officer for Mzimba South, Naomi Thamala highlighted the importance of teaching children about their responsibilities, especially as many face emotional challenges due to parental migration, particularly to South Africa.
"We must ensure that children receive the love and support they need while also understanding their own responsibilities," said Thamala.
