According to Dr. Jacob Kafulafula, Director of Health and Social Services at the hospital, the crash involved three individuals: Zimbabwean pilot Fungay Jonathan, 50, passenger Frisco Westheim, 29, and Charlotte Lemstra, 22, who survived the ordeal.
Preliminary reports suggest the pilot lost consciousness shortly after take-off, leaving Westheim to attempt an emergency water landing in Lake Malawi.
Tragically, both the pilot and Westheim did not survive the impact.
Malawi's government spokesperson, Moses Kunkuyu, confirmed the incident through a Press Release, stating the Nyasa Express aircraft, a Cessna, C-210 with registration number 7Q-PFU, was en-route from Nkhotakota to Liwonde when the crash occurred.
However, Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule has assured that government will do all it can to establish the cause of the accident.
