Ombudsman, MHRC, Legal Aid dates journalists in the north

The office of the Ombudsman, Malawi Human Rights Commission and Legal Aid Bureau, under the Chilungamo 2 program have called on journalist in the northern region to be in the forefront disseminating accurate information to the public.

The remarks follows an engagement meeting with Nyika Media Club on Thursday at Chatonda lodge, aimed at ensuring that there is access to Justice for vulnerable populations in the country.


Assistant Director for Legal Aid Bureau, Bwighane Masanjala said the media plays a vital role in ensuring that people understands their rights as well as where to seek justice in times of need.


"Media plays a crucial role in making sure that people understands their rights and where to seek justice, our mandate is to provide remedies for access to Justice, particularly for rural communities ", she explained.


Commenting on the training, Nyika Media Club Chairperson Feston Malekezo said the training is timely because some people confuse the roles of the three entities.


"The training has come at a an opportune time as most people including journalist confuse the three entities, so this will help us when writing our stories ", said Malekezo.


The training was organized under the second phase of the Chilungamo program -Awareness pool fund by the European union in Malawi.
