Police spokesperson for Lingadzi Police, Constable Maria Kumwenda said the suspect has been identified as Apatsa Makondetsa.
Kumwenda said the Police received a report from well wishers claiming that the suspect had been torturing her daughter since August 2024.
“Yesterday, the abuses reached another level after she burnt her daughter's private parts, and whipped her severely simply for the victim, wetting her bed and eating relish that was part of last night's leftovers.
“The suspect then tied her daughter's hands with a rope, locked her up in the house and warned her not to reveal her ordeal to anybody. The suspect instructed the victim to tell people that she was a victim of witchcraft if neighbours question the bruises on her body and that she fell from a witchcraft plane," said Makondetsa.
The PRO said after receipt of the report, Lingadzi Police detectives rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the victim who has so far been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for medical attention.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a case of Acts Intended to cause Grievous Harm.
Makondetsa hails from Khulumula village, Traditional Authority Nazombe in Phalombe District.
