Police urge citizens to seek psycho-social support

Police in Malawi's Northern district of Chitipa have urged citizens to seek advice from authorities or visit victim support unit for counseling and psycho-social support, whenever they meet challenges than committing suicide.


The call, comes following the death of a 19 year old man, Kondwani Msukwa who has died after hanging himself in his room at Chipwela village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwenemisuku in Chitipa District.


According to Assistant Public Relations officer for Chitipa police, Bright Mathews Mfune, said the incident occurred on 18th August 2024 around 06:00 hours.


He added that the body of Kondwani was discovered by his mother who went to wake him up and she found him hanging on the roof with a rope around his neck.


" The matter was reported to Chitipa police station where police officers and medical practitioners from Chitipa District hospital visited the scene, and postmortem conducted showed that the death was due to suffocation," said Mfune.


Mfune said the reasons for taking his life are still sketchy.
