Jenda Police Spokesperson, MacFarlane Mseteka said on Wednesday that the suspect was arrested on September 24, 2024, following a complaint by members of the community after the victim was released from hospital where he was admitted after the ordeal.

Mseteka said during the night of September 14, 2024, the victim Molala Simwaka 29, together with his two friends Mavuto 26 and Roshin Simwaka 27, were drinking beer at Chindoka, and later went to the suspect’s Shebeen around midnight, and they found it closed.

He said the three sat outside the Shebeen drinking their beer, and later, the suspect found them and started assaulting them, thinking that they were criminals trying to rob him.

“The victim, Jonazi, failed to run and fell, and was beaten severely by the suspect, and went on chopping off all fives toes from the left foot and one big toe from the right foot.

"The suspect took the victim himself to Embangweni Mission Hospital, where he was later referred to Mzimba District Hospital and he was admitted up until September 21, 2024, and the suspect has been charged with grievous harm and will appear before court soon," said Mseteka.
