Mzimba, Malawi – In a bold move to combat Child hunger and promote education, Shine On Malawi, in partnership with the U.S.-based Christian nonprofit Giving Basics, has announced an initiative to provide nutritious meals to more than 7,600 learners across Mzalangwe and Kapando zones in Mzimba District.

In an exclusive interview with Good Morning Africa News, Shine On Malawi Director Stalin Mughandira reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to the cause saying the initiative will help the learners stay in school and boost their nutrition and health.

“We are determined to make this happen. Feeding these children is a critical step toward improving their concentration, participation, and academic performance in school,” said Mughandira.

Mughandira said the feeding program will offer a daily serving of nutritious porridge, with the aim of reducing absenteeism and increasing classroom engagement.

“This project is not only about feeding children in schools, it also extends support to orphans and vulnerable members of the community,” he said.

He added that to ensure sustainability, Shine On Malawi has invested in its own farm and milling factory, which will supply the flour used to prepare the porridge.

“We were deeply saddened to see children spending long hours in school without food. That’s why we made a bold decision to establish our own farm and mill—to guarantee sustainable support for school feeding and vulnerable families,” said Mughandira.

Director of Giving Basics, Amy Sigler, highlighted the broader vision of the partnership, including the potential for future infrastructure projects.

“In the future, there will probably even be a bridge project, because they lack infrastructure in Malawi,” she said.

“100% of any amount given goes to those in Malawi. Thus far, thousands of kids have gotten school meals thanks to the Giving Basics and Shine On Malawi partnership,” she said.

Sigler urged well-wishers to invest in the future of Malawi through education, nutrition, and sustainable Developments.

The Kosciusko Chamber event also marked the formal launch of Giving Basics’ involvement in Mzimba District. Sigler made an emotional appeal to both Americans and Malawians to support the initiative.
