Police in Mzimba have arrested three men for attempting to rob a moving police vehicle and endangering the safety of road users along the Jenda-Embangweni road.

The suspects, identified as Mathews Nyirenda (28), Lazaro Sindani (20), and Edwin Nkhaya (26), carried out the attempted robbery near the ZCCC offices on the night of November 30, 2024.
According to Jenda Police Station spokesperson, MacFarlane Mseteka confirmed that the incident occurred while police detectives were conducting intelligence-driven operations.
"As the police vehicle approached the ZCCC camp offices, the three suspects jumped in front of it, attempting to hurl a stone-like object at the vehicle.
"The driver managed to stop the vehicle, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. However, the police officers pursued them and apprehended all three." Mseteka said.
He added that during the arrest, one of the suspects was found in possession of a toy gun.
The trio is believed to have targeted moving vehicles along the Jenda-Embangweni road near the ZCCC camp offices for robbery.
The suspects have been charged with attempted robbery and endangering the safety of road users and will appear in court once the necessary paperwork is completed.
All the suspects are said to be residents of Mzimba district.
