Police at Kafukule in Mzimba District arrested three Ethiopian nationals for suspected to have entered the country illegally.

The three, identified as Mubarike Yemen 27, Salamuni Aman, 18, and Tsedeke Girma 18, were found at Nashoni village, in the Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande in the district.
According to Kafukule Police Spokesperson Masiku Manyungwa said on January 14, 2024, the police followed reports from villagers of Nashoni that they found a suspicious car with tires busted near their village.
Manyungwa said the Kafukule detectives rushed to the scene and found a black Ford Everest Registration number BW 7323 as reported and upon enquiring, it was disclosed that they found a person at the scene who claimed to be the driver after threatening him, he revealed to have hidden the illegal immigrants in the nearby bush.
He said villagers managed to confiscate his phone, a driving licence and car keys, however in the course of confrontations he produced a panga knife and wounded one of the villagers and managed to run away.
He further said that the Police together with the villages made a joint operation which led to the arrest of the three suspects.
"The car which is believed to belong to Thomas Simbeye of Meru village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa has been taken to Kafukule Police station and the owner has been arrested for further investigations",said Manyungwa.
The three illegal immigrants together with the owner of the vehicle will be taken to court soon upon completion of all necessary paperwork to answer their charges.
