Speaking in an interview on Friday, after the cleaning up exercise conducted by the council, the DC said there will be no more street vending at the boma.

"We need to curb street vending practices and as council we have employed ten city rangers to put order for vendors plying their business alongside street and Thyolo District premises.

“This City rangers will start their work on 15 October, and they have already signed their contracts," he said

He said it is worrisome that most of the premises have turned into a market which is not good for health of Malawians in Thyolo.

"We are going to remove all these vendors at once because we have been telling them to actually relocate into the market, but they differed the order, so we are going to use force," said Kuphanga.

On drainage system, he said starting from next week, all drainage will be cleaned.

"We have a watchful eye now by putting all preventive measures to avoid outbreaks like Cholera through cleaning the drain hence relocating every vendor inside the market," he said.

Chairperson For Thyolo Modern Market, Evance Kachingwe, said the problem of street vending started way back and they will work tirelessly to relocate the vendors inside market with the assistance from Council because the market has a space to accommodate every vendor plying business at the boma.

Thyolo District Council Acting Director for Environment and Natural Resources Mirriam Yona said the initiative is crucial as it is embracing the attitude saying it will make Thyolo clean.
