Thyolo man netted for defiling minor

Police in Malawi's Southern District of Thyolo have arrested a man for allegedly defiling a 14 year old girl.

Thyolo Police Station Public Relations Rabecca Kashoti, confirmed the development and identified the man as Evasion Khweiwa aged 36.

The PRO said the incident occurred from the month of January 2024 to 27 December 2024 at Thomas village T/A Khwethemule.

"It is reported that accused is an uncle to the victim and she has been staying with him since 2021 when she was in standard 4.

But on 27/12/2024 at around 0000hrs wife to accused noted that his husband was not in the bedroom and she waited for him for some minutes but he didn't show up, the wife decided to follow him thinking he was outside, and she was coming out of the bedroom it's when she saw her husband coming out of the victims bedroom," she said

The PRO further said after the interrogation the victim revealed that suspect has been forcing her to be sleeping with him from January 2024 up to this date and he was giving her money not to reveal the ordeal to anyone.

The wife reported the case to to Makwasa police unit on 10/01/ 2025 where the victim was issued with a medical form and were referred to Thyolo District Hospital for examination and treatment and the results came positive.

The suspect was arrested and he has voluntarily admitted to have committed the offence and he will appear before court soon.

The man hails from Stambuli village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chimwala in Mangochi.
