Police in Thyolo have lauded the construction of a new waiting shelter at the station, citing its potential to enhance service delivery in the district.

Thyolo Police Station Officer In-Charge, Francis Chisoti, expressed gratitude for the initiative on Wednesday, noting that the shelter will improve the experience for those visiting the station, especially given the district’s unpredictable weather.

"Thyolo often experiences sudden rain, and it's not ideal to have people standing in the rain while waiting to be assisted. The newly constructed shelter provides a comfortable space for those visiting relatives or friends in police custody, ensuring they are not exposed to harsh weather conditions," said Chisoti.

Human Resource Manager for Nchima Lujeri Tea Estate, Darlington Kawawa, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the police. He noted that the police are crucial in securing company property, and the company is always ready to assist when needed.

“When we were approached about the need for the shelter, we did not hesitate to step in and support the project,” said Kawawa.

He also encouraged other stakeholders to contribute to improving facilities at the police station, highlighting the need for essential amenities such as toilets.

“Modern policing requires collaborative efforts between the police, the public, and the business community to create a safe and secure environment,” he added.
