Youth and Society (YAS) has called on young people to refrain from violence and to respect Malawi's amended electoral laws ahead of the 2025 general elections.

Speaking at a sensitization meeting in Mzimba, organized in collaboration with Mzimba Youth Organization under the UNDP-supported "Democracy in Young Hands" project, YAS Coordinator on Human Rights, Mwandida Theu, highlighted the importance of these new laws in preventing the exploitation of youths for violence during campaigns.

"The amended laws aim to protect young people and encourage their positive participation in political activities, promoting peace.

"It’s crucial for youths, political parties, and CSOs to understand the electoral act and to educate their communities, ensuring decisions are made in line with the law," said Theu.

Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) parliamentary aspirant for Perekezi constituency, Fikani Nyirenda, echoed this sentiment, urging youths to adhere to electoral laws, advocate for peace, and make informed decisions.
