Youths donate assorted items to Chitipa prison

Three youth organizations in Chitipa have donated assorted items to Chitipa prison as part of Christmas and new year celebration.

Speaking to represent the organizations, Ungweru , Yored and Tithakupewa, Saidi Mondwe, said they felt duty bound to assist the inmates in both physically, financially and spiritually and requested more stakeholders to do the same.

"We thought to assist because the inmates lack several important basic things in their day to day lives apart from physical, financially and spiritually," said Mondwe.

The station officer for chitipa prison Lupakisho Mukinga appreciated the initiative by the youth organizations saying the gesture symbolises their love between inmates and youth.

He furthermore pleaded to the community that to welcome prisoners that have been released and not to sideline them saying prison is collection centre where inmates are being reformed.

The district youth officer for Chitipa, Pearson Malinda thanked the youth organizations saying the initiative is good and it will go long to assist inmates in the prison.

"I am very happy with the role the youth have done. We understand the prisoners go through a lot and they cannot manage to afford all their basic needs,hence we find this donation timely,"said malinda.

Among the donated items include soya pieces and Azam soap.
