Masvingo, Zimbabwe — January 23, 2025— The High Court of Zimbabwe has handed over a three year-suspended sentence to Robert Makadho, a prominent cattle farmer and Chairman of the Masvingo Beef Producers Association, for the murder of his employee, in 2024.

Judge Charewa delivered the verdict

The verdict was delivered by Justice Charewa on Thursday afternoon after a full trial.

While Makadho was convicted of the serious charge, the judge opted to suspend the entirety of the sentence, contingent upon the payment of a level 12 fine by February 28, 2025

Level 12 fine in Zimbabwe is US$2000.

Should he fail to comply with this financial obligation, Makadho will face a reduced prison term of two years, as the court had suspended one year of the sentence for good behavior.

During the court proceedings, Makadho was represented by attorney Frank Chirairo, while the state was represented by Mr. BE Mathose.

The case drew considerable attention in the region, highlighting issues surrounding workplace safety and the treatment of employees within the agricultural sector.
